SOL was founded by Anatoly Yakovenko, a Ukrainian-American software engineer who previously worked at Qualcomm on operating systems and distributed systems for over a decade. Yakovenko published the Proof of History whitepaper in 2017 and co-founded Solana Labs in 2018 together with Raj Gokal, who serves as Chief Operating Officer, and Greg Fitzgerald, who serves as Principal Engineer. Additional co-founders include Stephen Akridge. The project is headquartered in San Francisco and supported by the Solana Foundation, a non-profit organization based in Zug, Switzerland, dedicated to the decentralization, adoption, and security of the Solana ecosystem.
