According to Resilience Media, Salesforce has agreed to acquire Rune Technologies for a total of $375 million in cash and stock. Rune is a startup company that develops AI software, which helps the U.S. military predict supply needs and manage logistics from the front lines.
This acquisition highlights Salesforce's advancement into defense technology through Missionforce. Missionforce is the business unit of the company that serves national security and defense agencies. In a blog post, Salesforce stated that since Missionforce was launched last year, its business has grown by 80% year-on-year, partly due to a new 10-year contract worth $5.6 billion with the U.S. Army. Salesforce claims that by integrating the frontline logistics data from Rune, Missionforce will no longer be limited to back-office administrative planning, but will further support battlefield operations.
Rune was founded in 2024 and has raised a total of 30 million US dollars since its establishment. Its investors include Andreessen Horowitz, Point72 Ventures, and IQT. IQT is a non-profit venture capital firm supported by CIA and was formerly known as In-Q-Tel. According to data from PitchBook, the startup's most recent valuation was 127 million US dollars, following its Series A financing led by Human Capital last year.
Salesforce has been actively engaged in mergers and acquisitions this year. In addition to Rune, this CRM giant has also agreed to acquire the AI agency platform Fin (formerly known as Intercom) for $3.6 billion, to buy Qualified for $1.2 billion, and after Listen Labs waived a $125 million term in its Series C financing and valued the company at $1.5 billion, it signed an acquisition agreement with that company, as previously reported by TechCrunch.
Salesforce did not respond to the request for comment.
