AI is now entering the section on mobile photography guidance. Following Google and Adobe's launch of shooting assistance features, two former TikTok employees have also launched a new app, attempting to turn "not knowing how to pose" into a standalone product.
Launched in July with a focus on posture guidance
The app with the iOS name is actually called Superpose, and it was created by Melody Chu and Jing Liu. Essentially, it is a camera app where users can take selfies or photograph their friends. The system generates 4 recommended posing options based on the current person, and then guides the user to adjust their position and movements within the frame.

The app also offers a "matching posture" feature, allowing users to adjust their position to be close to the generated posture according to the screen's suggestions. The report mentions that some of the generated results are quite exaggerated in style and occasionally appear less natural.
The team comes from TikTok and visual technology.
The founding team has a strong background in product and image technology. Chu has previously held positions at Meta, Nextdoor, Roblox, TikTok, and Slack; Liu was a founding engineer at a 3D facial scanning startup and later participated in image and video model work at TikTok.
Chu to TechCrunch indicates that the starting point for developing this product came from the daily photography experience. She hopes to utilize computer vision and generative AI to solve the problem where ordinary users struggle to pose properly and find it difficult to take ideal portraits when taking photos.
Focus on real-scenario portrait photography
Superpose was launched in July this year. The company stated that as of now, the application has been downloaded over 22,000 times, and users have generated more than 190,000 different poses in total.
- You can get 5 free generation opportunities per day.
- Additional 5 generations cost $2.99 each.
- 20 times generated for $9.99
Chu indicates that although several companies have entered the AI photography assistance market, Superpose does not intend to focus on AI background or fictional image generation. Instead, they aim to create a product that is more suitable for real-life portrait photography, helping users capture memorable moments in reality.
The company also acknowledges that there are still issues with some of the current posture suggestions not being natural enough. Moving forward, efforts will continue to optimize the generation style, personalization capabilities, as well as the real-time guidance experience within the framing interface.
Raised $2.2 million in financing
In terms of financing, Superpose has received $2.2 million in funding support, with investors including Khosla Ventures, Meitu, a Chinese mobile phone and selfie application company, as well as OVTR Ventures. This indicates that AI's photography tools are evolving from system functions to independent application entrepreneurship.
